The first course in poultry at the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (later, North Carolina State University) was taught in 1900-1901. In 1912, Poultry work became part of the Department of Animal Industry. The Poultry Science Extension Program began in 1907 and originally consisted of demonstration projects.
